今屆雙城雙年展的主要論述，是城市有其生理年齡，雖然這是個極表面及粗淺的分類，但多少顯示了其城市的主要議題及現象，也顯示出該城市大致的性格。對於有相當歷史，在時光的洗禮之後，一般人會賦予諸多浪漫的聯想，但是對於在三十年前因為經濟發展而快速發展的香港，台北，乃至於近年爆發的深圳與諸多中國城市，其發展多基於實際之經濟考量，而缺乏城市及建築的可識性，但即使如此，其獨特的城市性格也逐漸浮現。此次研討會，就是希望就亞洲城市，在面臨人口壓力以及經濟競爭的挑戰下，如何還能經由上而下的規劃，以及由下而上的轉化，將城市更為人性化，更具有可識性，以及更能夠融入多元的生活需求，成為居民都有認同感的集體的家。

This year’s Hong Kong Biennale puts emphasis on the age of a city, even this is an oversimplified description, it does presents the main features and issues of a city. People always have romantic associations to old places, but for Hong Kong and Taipei, fast development because of the economic development 30 years ago and city like Shenzhen and many other cities in China, most of the developments are based on the economic instead of aesthetics concerns. But still its city character is gradually shown up. This symposium focuses the discussion on the plan and change of those Asian Cities under the population pressure and economic competition while also humanizing the environment to accommodate diversified lifestyles and nurturing an identity as the residents' collective home.
